Sexual Health Organizations

The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) is a not-for-profit, interdisciplinary professional organization. In addition to sexuality educators, sexuality counselors and sex therapists, AASECT members include physicians, nurses, social workers, psychologists, allied health professionals, clergy members, lawyers, sociologists, marriage and family counselors and therapists, family planning specialists and researchers, as well as students in relevant professional disciplines. These individuals share an interest in promoting understanding of human sexuality and healthy sexual behavior. AASECT publishes Contemporary Sexuality, a monthly newsletter for AASECT professional members and is an international resource for educators, researchers and therapists.

APSATS logoThe Association for Partners of Sex Addicts Trauma Specialists (APSATS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the professional training and certification, public education, research, and advocacy for treatment of sex addiction- induced trauma. APSATS is the only organization that specializes in the preparation and certification of Partner Specialists. APSATS trains and certifies Certified Clinical Partner Specialists (CCPS) and Certified Partner Coaches (CPC) who subscribe to a developing treatment model that acknowledges and responds to the traumatic stress found in partners affected by sex addiction.

The International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP) was established by Patrick Carnes, PhD, to provide addiction recovery resources for both practitioners and patients and created the Certified Sex Addiction Therapist program (CSAT), a cutting-edge training and certification program built around academic study, experiential training, supervision and testing competence. IITAP also facilitates other training programs related to addictions and trauma, including eating disorders and chemical dependency. offers those suffering from a sexual addiction access to certified practitioners, resources, treatment options and referrals.

The Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (SASH) is a nonprofit multidisciplinary organization dedicated to scholarship, training, and resources for promoting sexual health and overcoming problematic sexual behaviors, including sex addiction, hypersexual disorder, out of control sexual behavior, sexual impulsivity and sexual abuse.
